NATURAL OR GLAMOROUS?

BY LINDA LE BROCK

Women of a Certain Age hit the red carpet with differing style approaches. At 46, Marissa Tomei and Catherine Keener, 52 on the red carpet both with light makeup and low-key hair. Or there’s Rene Russo at 57 and Robin Roberts at 50, both going more glam. What do you think? Better for WOACA to glam it up or go more natural?

I think when you are young you can get away with natural. But for WOACA you MUST go glam, I repeat you must go glam. Well applied makeup of course and perfectly tailored gowns. Let’s face it when you are young you can throw on a brown paper Trader Joe’s bag and some heels and look fantastic. http://www.flirtini.blog.com

I agree with Joyce–natural does WOACA no favors! Did you see Frances McDormand at the Tonys? No make-up, greasy hair, a denim jacket and a schlep-y old knit dress. She’s a genius actress and very creative but when you’re picking up a Tony on national television, it can’t hurt to put on a little eyeliner and wash your hair!

I would say neither Catherine Keener or Marissa Tomei are really all that natural. They chose subtle colors but still probably spent an hour in makeup chair. Both are wearing eyeliner. Frances McDormand should have absolutely tried to pull it together. It’s one for Patti Smith (there really only gets to be one of those) to do the eccentric artist thing and another for Ms. McDormand. I want Andi MacDowel’s lace dress!
